Legendary Manchester venue reopens with stonking folk line-up
Legendary Manchester music venue Band on the Wall has reaffirmed itself as a major platform for folk music as it announces its opening season.
Rising star Jim Moray, Mercury Prize nominees The Unthanks and Pentangle legends’, John Renbourn and Jacqui McShee, all appear on the new lineup.
The venue – in the city’s Northern Quarter – closed four years ago for a major renovation and in the past has also seen many folk artists, including John Martyn, Norma Waterson and Maddy Prior.
The launch season will see performances by one of folk music’s greatest innovators, Martin Carthy, comedian Ade Edmondson’s folk punk band The Bad Shepherds and the world-renowned flute player Michael McGoldrick. There’s also appearances from Thea Gilmore, Devon Sproule, Lucy Kaplansky and Lamb’s Lou Rhodes.
