Ballad Of Britain arrives on CD

balladofbritainThe Ballad Of Britain is finally available on CD.

A 21-track limited-edition CD and unlimited download of Will Hodgkinson’s field recordings is being released on 28 September on Heron Recordings.

From spring to autumn last year, Hodgkinson (author of Song Man and Guitar Man) travelled through Britain in a battered old Volvo with a portable recording device called a Zoom. The goal of his journey was to attempt to capture the spirit of the land and its people through its music.

Along the way he danced with gypsies in a wood in Sussex, learned about not getting ideas above your station from Jarvis Cocker and Richard Hawley in Sheffield and visited a town full of Bob Dylans in Scotland.

The story of his journey is told in the acclaimed book The Ballad Of Britain (Portico Press).

Featuring luminaries such as Gruff Rhys, Martin Carthy, Pete Molinari and Alasdair Roberts, alongside new and undiscovered talent, the 21 songs were recorded direct to tape in one take in kitchens, back rooms of pubs and on the streets of Britain.
