Hull Truck Theatre has announced a new season of folk, roots and acoustic nights. The season will start in October with anarchist folk-punkers Chumbawumba, followed by appearances by the Charlie Dore Band, Martin Simpson and The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.

Lisa Hannigan nominated for Mercury prize

Irish folkie and former Damien Rice collaborator Lisa Hannigan has been nominated for this year’s Mercury prize. Hannigan’s debut album Sea Sew – featuring the star’s own hand-stitched cover – joins the likes of Kasabian, Bat For Lashes, LaRoux and Friendly Fires for the award, which is announced on 8 September.

Tickets have sold out for this year’s Co-operative Cambridge Folk Festival. Taking place from 30 July to 2 August at Cherry Hinton, festival highlights include Lucinda Williams, Booker T, The Watersons and Jon Boden.

Some people think the Zutons are also folk. We do not….
